Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult (This Review Contains Spoilers)

Plain Truth

This is another one of my favorite Jodi Picoult books. Every time I read one of her books I swear that it's my favorite, until I read another. She has such an incredible talent of creating characters that get under your skin and live there. Plain Truth is no exception; I loved all the characters from the sassy feminist defense attorney, Ellie, to the quiet but complicated Amish girl, Katie, who allegedly murdered her newborn infant. The plot kept me turning pages until I got to the ending.

As much as I loved the journey throughout the book, the ending really left me disappointed. And while I love Jodi Picoult's books, I do see a pattern in her court scenes and the way she ends her crime dramas. She builds up this tension that pushes readers to the end only to find a cop out of an ending.

I was really disappointed that after such a long run of trying to find out if Katie was guilty, we get to a plea deal. I know that most criminal cases end in plea deals, so maybe it was more realistic, but it felt like the readers didn't get the closure that they needed. At the end of the case, we never know what happened to Katie's baby. However, Picoult leaves us with a two page explanation of what happened that night and who really killed the baby

However, despite the ending, I really did enjoy this book. It held my attention and I really felt connected to the characters of this book. I needed to know what happened to Katie's baby and what would happen to her
